TUTORIAL & PRACTICAL

Week 4 - Digital Collage & ADJUSTMENT LAYERS & FILTERS

This week, the teacher conducted online classes and we downloaded some images and made 3 digital compositions using Photoshop. I learned about how to cut out and crop images using select tools and pen tools. As for the rectangle pics, I cropped them out. People are cut out by selecting, magnifying, and using pen tools. The most difficult way was cutting out complicated shapes like plants. I used the channel, adjusted the contrast, and created a selection using masks. Exploring tools was quite fun for me. Here are 3 compositions I made.

  • ADJUSTMENT LAYERS & FILTERS

I used a color balance layer to change the atmosphere of the fish changing the numerical value +76, -35 and -100 from top to bottom. However, the image was a little dark as it was, so I adjusted it using a curve layer. As for the building, I used a hue/ saturation layer, the former numerous values are -162 and the latter one is -54. I also changed the color balance in the rectangle with the plant adjusting +41, +26 and -44 from the top. I also tried to use a filter, but it didn't match well so I just tried and didn’t use it. After adjusting, the overall image changed to a warmer color and atmosphere, like a day-to-early evening.

FEEDBACK

Ussing a high-quality piece of pictures in case you magnify it.

Reflective writing

I thought that the more elements a composition had, the better it was, but I was surprised to learn that simplicity is actually better.
