Overall Reflection
- Using photoshop is new to me at first, but I was getting used to it through this Project 1. During the first two weeks, I was anxious because I couldn't attend classes due to a delay in my student visa, but thanks to the support of my teacher, I was able to complete the physical collages with advice from my teacher. Deciding focus point and utilizing materials is a bit difficult, but hiding eyes worked well not to catch attention to the person itself.
- As for the digital collage, the select tool and pen tool were easy to apply when I cut out materials, but for complicated shapes like plants, it didn't work, so I tried to use Channel, which was most difficult for me.
- Photo manipulation (Hearst Mansion) is easy for me, and I think I could completely edit. There are still many effects and tools I can use, so I'll try to use as many as I can next time to make good works.
- The last exercise, the coloring task, was quite fun for me because the process of extracting my favorite colors from photos and editing evokes imagination and nostalgia. Personally, I thought it would be fun to take a black and white photo and try different colors when I'm not sure what color to dye my hair. I didn't find the process difficult, but when coloring the hair and background, I had trouble selecting parts, so I had to use the brush tool to fix the small details, which took a lot of time. But overall, as I said earlier, I had fun with this task.
Through each exercise, I found myself enjoying using Photoshop and creating works. I could learn basic skills, but there are still many things I can do when I create works. In addition to watching lesson videos, I would like to broaden the range of expression by studying on my own how to use tools and effects that I find interesting on the internet.
