Task1: Audio - Sound for Visual (dubbing)

Fig.1-1  Spreadsheet

At first, we are supposed to list down the details, like the protagonist's lines, sound effects, and ambient sound for each scene on a spreadsheet while searching online in class.

Fig.1-2 Online Audio Converter
I downloaded sound effects and ambient sound from the website called "Free Sound." However, some files are not directly available when importing Premium Pro, so I converted some files into "wav" using "Online Audio Converter."

Fig.1-3 Import sound effect and editing
placed audio files on the timeline and synced them with the video according to the spreadsheet. Here's the instruction from our teacher, and I followed this:

Audio track

  • 3 tracks for dialogue, one character, one track
  • 4 tracks for sound effects
  • 3 tracks for ambient sound

After adjusting every sound effect, I put "Audio transition - crossfade - constant power" into 3 tracks for ambient effects and completed it.

Fig.1-5 Adjust Pitch & speed
After editing sound effects, I recorded dialogue with my phone. I imported them into the file I created for this project and started editing to adjust the timing and voice from mine to a male-like voice, following the way: Premiere Pro - Audio Effects - Pitch Shifter for all lines and click semitone. Some lines are too slow compared to the original speed, so I adjsted the speed by Speed/Duration.

Fig.1-6 Adjust dB
After finishing this task, I adjusted the dB and volume of every audio, including sound effects, ambient sound, and lines by each track. Here's the instruction for adjustment:

  • Dialogue: between -6dB & -12dB
  • Ambience: below -20dB
  • Hard sound effects: depending
After receiving feedback from the teacher, I layered intense ambient music with shorter ambient sounds and added additional background audio to improve the overall sound quality. Then I completed project 1.

Task2 : Sound Shaping

I Recorded 10 seconds of my voice speaking my first language, Japanese. Then I placed it into Adobe Audition to do this exercise with these conditions:

  1. Voice of phone call.
  2. Voice coming from inside of the closet.
  3. Underground cave.
  4. Alien/ Orc voice

Fig.2-1 Importing process
At first, create a new file select a multi-track session and rename. Then import audio file.

Fig.2-2 Opening effect racks
Open the effect rack and select appropriate section for each themes given in the Teams. I repeated this task to create other themes and here's the each results:
