REFLECTION

Experience
Through the overall class, I found typography more interesting than before, especially as I encountered many references online. Although I still find designing typefaces difficult, the process of combining and creating posters using only letters was fun. Typefaces themselves may be overlooked by many people, I learned they can become visually appealing when applied appropriately and uniquely.

Personally, Task 1, extracting and refining shapes into letters, was the most challenging part of the class. This was because I had to consider how much of the original extracted shape should be retained while also maintaining readability. I wondered if I should have chosen an image with a more complex pattern, but in the end, I learned how to extract elements even from simple ones.

Observation
I noticed that the simple logo (Task 2) is actually carefully designed to communicate messages and concepts. At first glance, it looks very simple and easy to create, but in reality, it requires careful consideration of balance, typeface, clarity, and more.

While working on the task, I even started to wonder if creating a simple and universal logo might be more difficult than designing a complex and unique one. It was interesting and memorable to learn that well-known logos, which are instantly recognizable to anyone, involve not just simplicity but also a complex design process that incorporates deep conceptual thinking.

Finding
Overall, this class was busy, especially Task 3. There were many times I felt overwhelmed and thought I wouldn’t meet the deadlines, but I believe I learned a lot. I came to understand the complex design conceptual thinking that lies behind simplicity, as well as the appeal of typography itself, which I wouldn’t have noticed without taking this class.

It was also a valuable experience to engage in task similar to what is being increasingly valued in recent years, such as in the film industry, where the demand of typography is growing. I think it might be fun to apply what I’ve learned here to my personal creative projects. Though the class was very challenging, it reminded me of the importance of time management. I'll improve it for my future career.
